The internet is a very noisy place, and as far as online marketing is concerned, it is growing at an alarming rate. The reality though for businesses is actually quite simple. To be heard above the noise of the internet you just have to shout louder than your competitors. There is a pretty straightforward method to follow to help you achieve this:
1. Put together a list of your competitors.
Without knowing exactly who your competitors are, how can you possibly be able to outperform them when it comes to online marketing.
2. List your competitors online presence.
Visit each of your competitor’s websites and start to see what their website looks like, how often it is updated and the general quality and quantity of the information presented. Then start to search out their Social media sites, again looking for volume of content and regularity of postings. You should build up a checklist of Social Media sites down the left hand side and grade them according to activity, popularity, followers/likes etc. At the very least you should check to see if each of your competitors have accounts with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram. There are other Social Media sites that may be applicable to your industry, but these will be a good start.
3. Rank your competitors based upon the information you have found.
You should now start to see a pattern arising of the competitors who are active in online marketing and those that are not. Get them in an order that reflects this activity.
4. Build your own online marketing strategy.
You should now see the volume of content and activity you need to do to be able to be top of the list of businesses in your industry sector. You have the making of an online marketing plan.
5. Set up a diary.
Write down a diary of postings you want to make on your website and Social Media accounts that will achieve the volume of content you are looking for. Add onto this list themes for each of the pieces of content, so you end up with a complete diary of online activity that will surpass that of any of your competitors. Build the diary no more than a month in advance to start with as new things happen all the time and you will want to be flexible enough to move with new industry news if and when it arises.
6. Action the diary.
Nothing is worth anything without action, so make sure you either fulfill these diary entries yourself your you assign the role to somebody who can.
These 6 points will have you as the market leader within your industry and over time this will undoubtedly result in more awareness, more activity and more customers and orders.
